Church Walk

The church walk happens on a Sunday afternoon, roughly every 6 weeks.                                                                                                                                                                                                       Anyone can join in, just come to the start place at the time specified. They are advertised in the notice sheet.

Different people lead the walk each time, choosing the route and risk assessing it. This means that the walks are varied – some lasting an hour or two, some lasting 3-4 hours. They are often longer in the summer months, and shorter in the winter ones.

Children and dogs welcome – though must be supervised at all times by the person bringing them.

Sturdy shoes are a must and a stick is often useful.

Our regular walkers range from 1 -80 in age, and there’s usually a couple of small and medium sized dogs along.

In 2023 we had six walks, with one cancelled due to icy weather.

We walked around Norland Moor, Mount Tabor, Siddal going to Beacon Hill, Cromwell Bottom, Coley and Northowram and Sowerby Bridge and canal.

There was a core group of about 8 walkers, with numbers into the mid-teens on some walks during the summer months.

2024

The first walk in February was the route cancelled previously due to icy conditions. We started up cobbled paths by the cemetary in Siddal, going up into the fields above Siddal and walking along admiring the views. Then came down and warmed up in the pub on the way back to cemetary and our cars.

The second walk in March, was along the river bank from Mytholmroyd and then back along the canal. The pictures above are from this walk.
